Beth’s Story

"When it happens, it forever changes your life."
Domestic violence has raised its ugly head and greeted me several times in my life. When it happens, it forever changes your life. I knew someone who had their life violently ended through domestic violence and dealt with domestic violence in my own family.

Having the honor and privilege of volunteering on the board for Jingle Jam 10K gave me the opportunity to help others by spreading awareness of domestic violence and directing those in need to someone who could help and keep them safe.
I began serving on the Board of Directors for Jingle Jam 10K nine years ago when the death of a work friend from domestic violence was still raw. It was a varied group of women working in a law office sharing their life experiences of being a wife, a mom, a daughter and a friend. One of them, Misty, was full of life. She was outgoing, funny, a great mom and loved her friends and her friends loved her. When a fiancé showed signs of violence, she left him; but he found her, and ended her life forever changing the lives of her minor children, family and friends.

When faced with my own situation, reaching out to SafeHomes was the right decision. Besides being extremely helpful, I felt safe and that was huge exhale. The resources available through SafeHome’s, to benefit victims of domestic violence, are amazing. . . attorneys, court dates, protective orders, housing, security, pet boarding and more. The help is immediate.

SafeHomes is a blessing to our community as well as to all the counties it serves. Being able to give back through Jingle Jam 10K is my way of saying thank you and hopefully make others aware of the help SafeHomes offers.
